Olives are one of our favourite fruit trees, but they also contain a high concentration of healthy, antioxidant-rich oils. In fact, you can get up to 20 pounds of olives per year. No matter where you live, they are rarely bothered by pests and will grow organically. Best of all, these trees are semi-deciduous, which means they only lose their leaves in very cold conditions and can tolerate 20 degree weather. Growing indoors, they will retain their leaves throughout the winter. Quick to grow, easy to prune to a manageable size and whether they are grown outdoors or in containers, you don’t have to spend a fortune. If you’re in the north, keep them in containers and bring them indoors during the harshest winter months and move them outside in the summer.
